Hello all,

Need some advice here.
I am about to start a Deaf Lug and reason for that is I get lots of
emails regarding Linux.
So I thought I d set up one although I do say go to your local lug
they help/won't bite etc.
You're thinking why another lug...
Deaf people who brought up in BSL (British Sign Language) so English
is not our first language. So if he/she posts on here people might
think someone a foreign and speaks a little English and helpfully
point them to another lug. I have seen that happen a few times on
forums (not on this mailing list).

My question is (don't worry I am not leaving this list) when setting
up a lug do you get shot down ie get people saying your wasting your
time Micrsoft the way forward etc. see below

What is the reason for a 'Deaf LUG' if it is only 2 or 3 or 4 Geeks
talking in Deafie Geeky lingux?!! Don't want to become a sad Deaf
Geeky Lingux!!! (Was a Geek on Unix/Linux as a System Programmer on
X-Windows environment but no more!!!!)

No thanks!!!

A Geek with lotta $$$£££ on Microsoft platforms!!!!

There is'nt much Linux / Apple Geeks around because most Businesses -
large Corporate and small companies are on Microsoft because of their
dominance on application software market... Like for example, British
Airway, large Banking institutes etc....

I was a system programmer for large corporate Mainframe and Unix
system but the number are down!!!! So, Linux is also down due to
flooding of different dist. which is not suitable for large business
system!!!! After attended lots, lots of Microsoft courses / conf. /
seminar and I asked for 'all expenses paid' visit to various linux
seminar / conf and so on but was refused!!!! So, at the end, I took
time off to visit but still not as 'wow' factor as I expected!!! It is
dropped due to bickering going on over reliabilities, availability of
specialist as well as security patch fix!!!! So, at the end as an
System Specialist on Microsoft platform!!

Nowaday, I have read some people which work on Linux system but still
not much going on apart from tinkering about!!!

Sadly they need an experience personal (in both Business oriented and
Technically fast to response and problem solver!!) so they can drop
you in the job whereas training will be not given unless you are
lucky!!!!

I enjoy using Linux and I always learn something new from this list
and forum elsewhere . do you get crap like this? Any advise from you
guys?

Fintan
