[SC.LUG] Email Scam Alert

Dear LUGs,

I thought I'd alert you to a Bogus Email I received recently. Apparently
it's from Lloyds TSB, even though I'm not a Lloyds Customer. So I phoned
Lloyds, who confirmed it wasn't theirs, though they were aware of it. Here's
a (rough) copy below, and I wouldn't recommend anybody to reply to it:

This email was sent by the Lloyds server to verify your e-mail
address. You must complete this process by clicking on the link
below and entering in the small window your Lloyds Customer
Number, Passnumber and Memorable Data.
This is done for your protection --- because some of our
members no longer have access to their email addresses and
we must verify it.

To verify your e-mail address and access your bank account,
click on the link below. If nothing happens when you click on the
link (or if you use AOL), copy and paste the link into
the address bar of your web browser.

That's right, it didn't come from Lloyds TSB, it was a bunch of Crooks
trying to steal everybody's Life Savings. Maybe you know all about it
already, but this scam seems fairly recent so I thought I'd tell
everybody.
