The disc is virtually a free gift, it makes up a
tiny part of the magazine's cost, though a large
part of its perceived value (and thus some
justification for LXF's pricey DVD edition)

That's always been my problem - but it doesn't
seem to stop me buying them anyway :-/

The way laptop prices are coming down maybe they'll
be cheaper than magazines one day :-)

Linux Magazine doesn't have a disc unless you
subscribe (however it's no longer cheap).

No - a couple of years ago they were cheaper, though
this is no longer the case. The price justification
is to pay for the work in assembling the extra content.
This seems quite reasonable, and Future do give you a
choice between a DVD and a CD version.

No, but time *always* is :^)
