Hi,
I can't get my HP Visualize C180 to connect to the network, despite following
the instructions in HP's own documents. If I describe what I've done, can
someone tell me if I'm doing something stupid (apart from buying too many
computers to play with!)
The machine runs CDE and has SAM as a configuration tool. The network uses a
Speedtouch adsl modem acting as a DHCP server for a mixture of Linux and
Windows machines. The modem's instructions said to make all IP addresses
10.0.0. *something* The light on the ethernet port doesn't light up when the
machine is running, I can't ping the modem, but I can ping the card (lan0)

The hostname is "visual". The hosts file has
localhost 127.0.0.1
visual 10.0.0.9 (default gateway)
speedtouch	10.0.0.138

The Network interface card's part of SAM has one entry:
ethernet lan0 8/16/6	enabled	10.0.0.9	255.0.0.0 and a hex address

Is my problem that the ethernet card has the same IP number as the machine?
(I've tried changing it to another number). If so, what should I change it
to? HP's documents just say "get the info from your system administrator".
I've set the card's broadcast address to 255.255.255.255 manually, I've told
the system to use DHCP. I seem to be running out of ideas what to do next.
thanks for any ideas/suggestions/guides to foolproof Unix configuration. I've
tried http://docs.hp.com/ which is good, but doesn't make it work.

Neil
