Unfortunately, the Canoscanner 5000f is on the SANE 
( http://www.sane-project.org/ ) list as unsupported.
However there is a link to a new support group 
( https://gna.org/project/memberlist.php?group=canoscan5000f ) although they 
all appear to be in France.
You could try e-mailing one of the listed members to find out what progress 
has been made, and if there are any drivers that you can use that while not 
giving every function will at least let you scan.
