One thought.

I'm not sure how to do this, but you may find the problem is due to (lack
of) negotiation between the cards. I have seen this b4 with windoze boxes
(mind ewes, I think I've seen every problem with windoze boxes as some time
in the last 10 years!). Try forcing the cards to full or half duplex and
either 10 or 100Meg. Make sure they are both the same though...
