Well, I joined over the summer, but if anyone reading this has been 
reading this list at all, you will have noticed that I do a fair bit of 
publicity (among other things) for Manchester Free Software group as 
well as being involved deeply with DFEY - Digital Freedom in Education 
and Youth[1].

I'm a student and am on more mailing lists than is healthy, though I 
tend to take more notice of the lower traffic ones where the noise to 
signal ratio is better. :)
