Hi,
Background...
I have Suse Linux 7.3 pro as a minimum install on two machines networked together via patch cables and a hub.
Machine One (P133) has emacs installed as an editor and the Telnet server installed to facilitate a Telnet connection from the Second Machine (P75).
Both Machines PING each other successfully.
When i try to use Telnet from the P75 to connect to the P133 i get the following:
TELNET>open <Host Name<>Domain Name> i get the messages:
"Name or Service not known"
"Host Name Lookup Failure"
TELNET>open <IP Address of P133 > i get the message:
"Connection Refused"
In the process of deciding what was initially wrong i loaded/enabled Network Services on both machines, allowing the use of Telnet, finger, ftp and remote printers etc.
Thought about a firewall blocking a connection but no firewall is installed or not that i can find one with yast1 or 2.
I have edited the file Hosts.deny to read:
ALL : ALL EXCEPT 127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.98, 192.168.0.99
I have edited the file Hosts.allow to read:
ALL : 127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.98, 192.168.0.99
TELNET : ALLOW ALL
The File called inetd.conf has the following line enabled:
telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd
I am still being refused connection!
Something's going wrong and I'm running out of ideas, does anybody have any suggestions?
Mark
