[SLUG] changing title in gnome terminal problem

Tryed doing the echo "It works" inside .bash_profile and it does not echo 
it, however I know .bash_profile must be executing because my custom path is 
set there and a echo $PATH from the terminal shows me my custom path has 
taken place.

I tryed with .bashrc also and the same, I cannot change my terminal title.
