Thanks Paul and Jamie.

I have to say first i'm pretty new to the whole Networking thing, so 
don't realy know what i'm talking about. Also about the mandrake/ 
slackware thing, i've got mandrake on one drive to work with while i 
learn to "do" slackware on my other hard drive....

As to what I want it to do, I just want to be able to transfer files, 
talk between the computers, and play games between them too! I would 
quite like to be able to share internet connections, and for future 
know how to expand my system for larger networks.

As i said first I don't know much about networking, do I even need a 
dedicated server to deal with such a small system? I may just not be 
looking in the right place when i search so please feel free to say 
RTFM at some website. (a URL would be nice though!)
