Yes, I was actually looking at a Tadpole SPARCBook for a while until I realised they cost about ?3000!
I wouldn't mind a little Sun workstation actually - they look kinda cool but even the old ones are quite pricey.
Ideally, I just want something that'll be a challenge to get going, but with a good support community. I am looking seriously at the VAX because it's a monumental stepping stone in the computing history and so it'd be nice to own one. If I could get hold of an original working 1977 VAX 11/780 I would, although I'd have to throw out my bed to make space for it!

Does it have to be DEC flavour? (Not that I'm complaining mind), but select machines from any of those groups will run Linux, Sun and even HP kit will run Linux nicely, for SGI's, an Indy is your best bet, and I'm not sure of the state of IBM RS/6000's, if that's indeed what they are.
