just a follow-up on this if anyone's interested.  I decided to stick to my
existing ISP (Zetnet) and ordered a speed update from 512K to 2Mb.  Placed the
order yesterday at 11am, already done and working!

235Kb/s - yeehar.

now to find some big stuff to download just for the hell of it :)
