I recall using raidhotadd in the past, but it appears to be deprecated in
FC3, leaving mdadm as the only official way of administering an md RAID set.

Eek! Yeah, I missed that. Definitely a bad idea to have drives in a RAID
pair on the same channel. In fact, the OP was lucky the problem didn't take
out /both/ drives at once!
