You do what's considered polite in the context in which you're posting, 
otherwise you come across as an asshole. If you're posting on a company 
mailing list, you top-post, because that's what everyone else is doing. If 
you're posting on a techie list such as this one, you bottom-post with heavy 
snippage of the quoted message, for exactly the same reason, and because 
people will be mercilessly sarcastic at you if you don't, which will start 
long, tedious flame wars that everyone is sick of, so will people (not just 
you, I should add) please just SHUT UP ABOUT THIS ALREADY?
