0. Take a safety backup of ~/.mozilla/ (just in case). You can use Konq 
for this: make sure View|Show hidden files is checked.

1. Download the .tgz from getfirefox.com

2. sudo -i (to become root)

3. cd /opt; tar zxvf <tarfile>

4. kdesu /opt/firefox/firefox (ie. run once as root; this allows firefox 
to sort itself out)

5. Right-click the K button and bring up the menu editor. Create a 
suitable menu option for firefox.
