Mystery revealed --- stock Ubuntu comes with ipmasq. Cheers.
In fact, this may make my life easier as ipmasq should set up my extra
interface (eth1394, FWIW --- Firewire networking is great) without having to
use my own hacky script, but dammit, modern machines are just *too complicated*.
(You may be amused to know that I've recently had to start using an old P166
48MB laptop as an X server, and so have been rediscovering the joys of olvwm
and xview. It works surprisingly well --- and Firefox works unsuprisingly
badly...)
