Heating oil is about 7p/kWh and heating water to indirectly heat more
water in a tank 50 feet away can't be efficient. Then the boiler is
over 20 years old and won't be as efficient as a modern one even if
serviced regularly.

We're begining to burn out fuel pumps regularly since they removed the
sulphar lubrication from the oil, and I'm told that modern replacement
condensing oil boilers only have a usable life of about five years.

Just hoping to hold it together long enough for heatpumps of some sort
to become viable.

Then again the quote for getting mains gas was something like 15 grand.
