Apparently the configuration file for minicom is not there.
In kppp Terminal I entered
AT
ok
ATS0=0
ok
AT&W0
ok
as advised (and also some other variations, including AT &F which is supposed
to restore the factory defaults i.e. S0=0)
But as soon as I exit kppp terminal the modem autoanswers again.
When I type AT &V to display the active configuration of the modem it shows:
AutoAnswerRing# 0 S0=0
I haven't a clue where to look in kppp to see if the S0 register is being
reset.
wvdial.conf has line:
Init 2= AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
chat is not installed
The xconsole often shows the line:
linux logger: Warning: weird character in interface 'ppp*' ( No aliases, : ,
! , or *)
Recently also the lines:
linux kernel: ip_tables : (c) 2000 Netfilter core team
linux kernel: ip_conntrack (1983 buckets, 15864 max)
(There are other messages which I believe are due to nvidia chips on my
motherboard - a MicroStar MS 6367 - which are not supported by SuSE 7.3. But
I think I know what to do for this)
I guess I can live with the autoanswer if I have to. It's all beginning to
seem like a bit too much bother.
