Microsoft's view does seem to have been changed.

"The way the [GPL] license is written, if you use any open-source software, you have to make the rest of your software open source ... Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches." Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO - June 2001


"The GPL utility source code for Services for UNIX 3.0 contains the base utilities diff, sdiff, bc, dc, cpio, gzip, gunzip, gawk, patch, csplit, nl, strings, rpm, and SDK utilities/libraries ld.so, gcc, gdb, g++, g77, gasp, objcopy, ld, as, ar, nm, size, strip, ci, co, diff3 rcs, rlog, and ident." - May 2002
