I helped someone out recently with a similar problem, what I found was
if I did'nt go through  all the options when setting up kdialer then
the ppp script was not completed correctly and missed certain options.
Try setting up your dial up connection again and go through every
setting even if you do not change some of them. You can compare before
and after by taking a copy of your current one. This was in Suse 9.2,
Suse 9.1 worked fine.
