Hi Chris

I'm not with NTL, instead I have Broadband with Force9 using an ethernet
connection via an Eicon external modem! I have four systems all networked
together.

I had a look at the NTL site and the Ambit site. Am I correct in thinking
that you have USB and Ethernet on your cable modem?

If you have then I recommend you use the ethernet. Cabling is cheap and it
removes the need for USB drivers. I stumbled across the following link
whilst I was searching for info. It is written by a NTL user who has
successfully connected using Linux! I have only had a quick look through but
it appears to mention Mandrake. The link is;

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jandg-cooper/home_network/intro.html

I hope this has been some help!

Hi to everyone else - Hopefully I will be able to get to the Friday night
drinking session and Sunday meet soon!!!

Cheers

Gary Jordan

prob

Hi Linux peeps - new member Chris here. I've been running MD 8.2 since
around April. It's the first distribution that worked 'out of the box' for
me, but (shock!, horror!) I've had to go back to Windoze due to this cable
modem. Inevitably, ntl supports Windoze, so it's made to run as part of the
install. When I switch to MadDuck, though, it recognises the modem as a usb
modem, but requests drivers. That's great - there are none anywhere!!
Nothing on the mfrs website (it's an Ambit 351000, badged as an ntl:home
100), nor from ntl. Prodigious websearches have produced nothing. Dear ol'
ntl have taken down my dial-up account , so I have no net access in MD :-(

Has anyone succeeded in getting this modem running in a Red Hat based
distro? If so, a few pointers would be really appreciated. Thanks in
anticipation

  Chris
