I've found ntlworld to be excellent - very reliable and
inexpensive.  But I hear their mail service (which I don't use) is
a bit pants.

Virgin, on the other hand has an excellent mail service in my
experience, but can be a pain to connect to, I'm told - so
admittedly I have the best of both worlds.
