Could be a short in the High Voltage Line somewhere causing arcing hence the
crack sound, you should not attempt any sort of repair unless you have been
trained to handle high voltage equipment (These things have up to 25,000
volts in them, an IT technican couple of years ago at a college near to me
was killed trying to fix a duff monitor) better to get a new one or a cheap
second hand one, better safe !
