Knoppix is great for trying things out, Im not so sure I'd be as keen
on it as my installed distro, theres plenty to choose from. As a
beginner I suppose its more useful to try and see what you like +
learn from it.

(yuk yuk yuk amazon urls)  published by oreilly is pretty good... tbh
anything  published by o'reilly seems to be of quite a high standard.

Dead tree format might be nice but there is more information than you
could ever read on the net.
