personally i've not had that, but i know of others who have.
you can try checking your /etc/resolv.conf and seeing what is in there.
it sounds to me like its trying to check a DNS server that isnt responding.

do you know the IP for your ISPs DNS server?
try putting that in the /etc/resolv.conf and see if that works
