[StAndrews and Fife LUG] Newbie sucessfully installs Suse

Hi everyone,

Just a line to say that I managed to install Suse on my system. I did
decide to have a linux only machine in the end. I can maintain my
ligering addiction to MS on my other machine. I thought having a single
Boot system as my desktop at home would be more likely to push me
towards learning.

The install was relatively painless - a few hardware problems with stuff
wrongly detected etc. Managed to sort most of it out although I have to
say I did it through GUI rather than command lines. I gave up on my
modem and went out and bought a standard AT external modem. Previously I
had a usb modem which worked well with windows. It turned out it was a
soft modem and although I found some beta drivers it all seemed a bit
much to attempt to install at that point in time.

I am currently using the KDE desktop and have been very impressed by the
software on default installed.
