Wondered if anyone had seen this before, or understand what is going on....

I am having problems with environment variables on Gentoo. I have been
battling with this one for a while. Some of my java applications require a
JAVA_HOME environment variable. Everything I have installed is fine when I
get this right, but when I reboot the machine, the variable changes. ???

In /etc/profile.env I set the variable line to:

export JAVA_HOME='/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1.02:'

when I reboot it looks like:

export JAVA_HOME='/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1.02:`/bin/grep -e JAVA_HOME
/etc/profile.env | /bin/sed -e s/^.*'\(.*\)'$/\1/`'

What is _that_ all about? :)

Dominic
