Sounds like you need a standard Linux powered mailserver running
SquirrelMail or suchlike.
There is a nice Gentoo doc that goes through a basic setup of exactly this
(postfix, courier-IMAP, Apache, squirrelmail) at:

.. ironically this is the desktop setup guide :)
