Paul,

If the RedHat rpm is anything like the SuSE one, I believe PHP only runs if
you use the "prefork" Apache 2 module. Even then, don't expect sparkling
performance.

I think it comes from when they tried to compile it (a long time ago) with
the support for all the different things they required, and they had some
problems.

So now they like to be able to say "this rpm" is current our "standard" for
Apache, etc.

Personally I dont believe there is such a thing as a "standard" server
build, when they can have completely different requirements.
