Erm, yeah sorry, point taken - SORRY LIST, a bit of tunnel vision - quite 
easy to forget that the list is everyone (especially when you've spent the 
greater part of a week swearing at a monitor :) ) please forgive the 
impolites!

The instructions that I have been trying to follow are at ??? sorry I can't 
find the link, but there seems to be something at 
http://www.kde.org/download/ that I'm going to try, the instructions that I 
have been trying/failing to follow are linked somewhere in linuxquestions - 
the link says about using sarge, but getting debs from sid - the link seems 
to suggest that there are some "sid debs" for kde 3.1.3 - if there are I 
haven't been able to get them to work.

Presently, I was going to try adding the source at the kde link above.
