One of the things from the meeting was the setting up of a Wireless AP,
for which I offered to get SussexNetShare involved.
SnS (part of the feeed.net network) uses the following charging system:
£6.95 per user on each node, of which £5 goes to the node owner, and
£1.95 goes to SnS (minus paypal charges.) The fees go towards the user
tech support line, and node maintenance and upkeep (provided by feeed.net)
Instant access is also available by SMS.
SnS are willing to supply the hardware as soon as required for this
(this includes antenna, box, 1 or 2 WiFi cards, and setup expertise.)
John mentioned that the Holbrook club would want the node to be free
access - and herein lies the issue (yes, there had to be one!) - I don't
know whether the other SnS and Feeed persons will want this (will check)
So, there are 2 options here that I can see:
1. We connect the node to SnS and accept the charges (whoever pays them
- Holbrook or us)
2. We setup a meshap box for the club ourselves (am happy to setup and
show how to - just need a PC, and 802.11b cards, but would prefer to
grow the mesh)
The angle from the Sns and Feeed perspective is that a Mesh box in
Horsham would increase coverage, and would allow the network to grow
further within Sussex - hence why we can set it up for nowt, but this
doesn't sound like it agrees with what the Holbrook club wants. (Am I
repeating myself here?)
Anyway, I think it needs discussing the best way to proceed.
Cheers,
Richie
