[Sussex] A rant on using different distributions

I'm not going to repost everything you said, but believe me I
understand the frustrations. However, I'd point out that it's more a
case of what you're used to than one thing or another being crap.
Debian is a complex seething mass of tools, sure, and I find it
irritating to maintain as well, but it does work (once you get your
head around it). I'd argue that in many cases Debian simply isn't
worth the time and effort you need to put in to learn all the complex
tools that surround it (I'm thinking more of the packing process
rather than the use of packages), but many people disagree with that
point of view.
For my tuppence worth I'd say that if you're looking for a distro that
doesn't require compiling (but can do it easily within the bounds of
the package management system) and isn't a million miles from Gentoo
in style that Arch Linux is a very good bet.. I think you'd find it
more up your street than a Debian based distro.
