I frequently install Mandriva and the normal time from start to finish 
is about 35 minuites (assuming good CD/DVD reader). And after this time 
you have a full system OOo 2, Gnome, KDE, and just about any application 
you could wish for.
Installing Microsoft is long, one has to allow 3 hours and that is 
before any applications are loaded. It is all that rebooting that gets 
in the way.
