Jon,

My upgraded disk stil won't boot. I have played around further.......
I tried booting with acpi-on but it still failed:
Red Hat nash version 4.2.15 starting
  Reading all physical volumes
  No volume groups found
Unable to find volume group "VolGroup00"

Booting from the Rescue disk I can access the disk and change grub.conf

Are there other changes/tests I could do in whilst in Rescue mode?
You mentioned upgrading to the current version of Fedora Core 4. The one I
installed came from the Red Hat site in November but, I think, was dated
June 2005. Is there a later version I can download. ( I have a set of RPMs
to bring my copy up to date but presumably I cannot apply these until I get
a bootable disk?)

Many thanks,

Brendan
