The PCI Bus can handle a maximum throughput of 1064Mbits/sec (running at 
33MHz, 32bit width, 4bits per tick), whereas a USB 2.0 connection can 
handle a maximum throughput of 480Mbits/sec, well within the max 
throughput of the PCI bus.  Also, built in USB hubs on a motherboard are 
attached to the Southbridge, as is the PCI Bus, so are limited by the 
Southbridge throughput as well.

Obviously, in both scenarios, the bandwidth is shared amongst the 
devices connected, so these are theoretical maximum transfer speeds.  
And, of course, the rest of your system has to be able to handle the 
additional load as well.
