Mooters
This month's talk is, by popular request, on vi, the love it or hate it
editor. I'm planning the talk to include some practical examples that
attendees can try out from themselves. I'm also trying to recreate the
world that vi was born into. That means good old serial terminals. So:
1). Does anyone have a good old VT100 (or compatible) terminal they
could bring? It would be really cool to hook one of these up to the
little 4-port server I've just built (DB9 connections).
2). Does anyone have a null modem cable they could bring (female DB9
ends). I have three but the server has four working ports. If no one
shouts then I'll have to make one up.
3). Will a projector be available?
If you want to connect a laptop to the server using a serial line then
you will in a terminal emulator installed on your system. I recommend
minicom [1] if you haven't got one installed already. Configure it for
9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity.
See you all soon
Steve

On Debian like systems try:
apt-get install minicome
