With that kind of spec, I'd suggest DamnSmallLinux (http://www.dsl.org
iirc) it's based on Debian and as you can upgrade to Debian, you could
probably pull in the packages for KDE if you really wanted to, however
you might get away with an old copy of SuSE or Redhat (and I mean
RedHat pre-fedora!)
