[Sussex] Help with getting started please

Thanks for the suggestion Desmond,
I got an install disk burnt after 3 attempts and I think I did a partitioned
install on the decrepit PC (Windoze Explorer is saying that it's disk has
shrunk).......*but* unfortunately I can't get the dual boot option just
cluttering clanking XP as usual!
A bit of surfing suggests that this is to do with a Grub file needing to be
installed or moved. The solution seems to involve coding and kernels which I
think is totally beyond me. If anyone has a relatively painless solution I
would be grateful.
