Hi All,
Just a quick note of thanks to Gavin for presenting his talk at
Thursday's moot.
For those who missed it, Gavin talked us through how he prepared and
conducted his recent computer training sessions. These were aimed at
complete beginners. He had been commissioned to write and lead a
course and I believe he completed two of them, one being slightly more
advanced. One of his students from the first course enrolled on the
second for the follow up training.
He explained that his students were not at all interested, in any
shape or form, in the fact that the software was freely available or
could be modified. They just wanted to know if it worked and helped
them do stuff.
Poor Gavin, who had prepared a little talk on this aspect, quickly
abandoned those ideals in favour of the more practical stuff :-)
They continued like this for several more weeks until they were so
firmly convinced of the validity of the software (all of which could
work on Windows as well as on Linux), that they became more receptive
to the philosophy behind it all.
This was a very informative and relaxed talk, delivered using
**printed sheets of paper** LOL
Welcome back to Peter, who hasn't visited for some years and sends
his greetings to Steve D, Nik and others.
P.S. Anyone is most welcome to offer up a talk.
Best Regards,
Fay
