Something which has bitten me a few times on NTL is their dhcp caching mac
addresses. Because of some mis-configuration a few years ago, it was
possible to create sub-interfaces and request more than one IP address, then
route these across your network. </long story>

NTL got wise and changed the configuration of the DHCP severs so now each
modem is bound to a particular mac address, if you were to plug the modem
into a different machine/nic, then you would *not* get an IP.

After copious amounts of complaints I believe NTL have changed their policy
slightly now, so that if you call them up and waste ~2hrs of your life on
hold, they will add the second mac address for you.

Alternatively:

o put the old nic in the qube [note, ive never seen anything other than a pic
so I dunno if you can]
o spoof the mac addr of the other nic [and make sure only one is used at any
one time, else local communications will be royally screwed].
