I can only speak about the LPI certification, because that's the one
I've done.  

The LPI cert is actually pretty easy, and you can do it on the cheap by
self-study with the aid of a couple of good books.

I suppose this might be one reason why most people regard the more
difficult RHCE as being more worthwhile from an employer's standpoint.
