[SWLUG] lines in gtk apps that weren't there before!

attached is a png of xmms prefs dialogue, notice the lines between list items? 
i never had that before i upgraded to mandriva 10.2
i get this effect in all my gtk1+ apps, gtk2 apps are fine, i have tried 
different gtk themes, they apply well enough but the lines remain,
i find it very hard on the eyes, any ideas?
