I was looking for such stuff on Sunday, but didn't put too much effort
in.  I wanted to compress an avi, convert it to mpeg, etc, etc.  I
guess dvd-writing is a no-brainer (?), but its making a DVD video that
i have no experience of on Linux or *BSD

I agree in that there are a wealth of tools available for windows.  I
can't really put the effort in at the moment, but if you do come
across any tools / techniques on Linux (or any UNIX-like OS) then
please let me know, on or off list.
