Dear All

I am using Mandriva 2006 on my laptop and I have one pcmcia slot.

During boot up I do see "Starting pcmcia OK".

I have an external cdrom that connects to the laptop in this manner. Before I connect this device I have the following entries

Devices:cdrom with a device node of /dev/hdc
/mnt/cdrom/

fdisk -l reveals
"[root at localhost stephanos]# fdisk -l
   Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40007761920 bytes
   255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4864 cylinders
   Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
   /dev/hda1 * 1 764 6136798+ 83 Linux
   /dev/hda2 765 4864 32933250 5 Extended
   /dev/hda5 765 904 1124518+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
   /dev/hda6 905 4864 31808668+ 83 Linux
   [root at localhost stephanos]#"

After I insert the cdrom I hear a little click from the external cdrom and the cd inside does rotate, but no new icon appears in devices for me to double click.

However, after insertion fdisk reveals the same information. I am not sure what to do now.

Any help appreciated

Stephen (Swansea, Wales, UK)
