Eeee... When I were a lad, we'd all recompile kernels with every
1.1.x release... We'd race to get it done, and impress our mates by
how many hours we could do it in.

But anyway. There's a kernel recompilation HOWTO or several, and most
(all?) distributions have their own support for custom kernel
building. Usually the tricky bit is getting a close match to the
existing kernel, but I think that these days, being able to reuse
either a /boot/config file or the magic equivalent in /proc somewhere
is always available.

So, anyway, there's a HOWTO I found at
http://www.aerospacesoftware.com/kernel-compile-howto.html which at
least mentions Mandriva.

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Howto/Mandriva_Kernels notes that
"kernel-tmb" might save you the effort, but otherwise, good luck.

Dave.
