I have the following in one box

'GeForce 8600GT SLI 256MB GDDR3 Dual DVI/TVO PCI-E'

And that works fine with Ubuntu and probably will be in the repos so
i'm guessing you should be fine.

The one thing about Nvidia and Ubuntu (and probably a lot of distros
that would ship the binaries) is that it tends to be behind the curve
in terms of driver release. So, if you want the latest support for
XYZ driver then it is probably best to get the drivers directly from
http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html whereas if you want something
that 'just works' then try whatever is in your repo. I've had to use
the latest drivers in the past, but that's no big deal.
