Longtime lurker here. Rhys have a look at captive portals. They require you to login to be able to use an open network. But some just have a disclaimer you have to accept. You could bodge it so the WiFi captive portals you to your page?

I'm not sure I'll make it but I can try. It's a half school day for me here in South Carolina. Still a 5 hour time difference.?
Middle school gets out at 12:20 and is a 45 minute run if everybody rides. Add 30 minutes to get home so an optimistic time would be 1:35 or 6:35pm UK time.?
How much I'll be able to hear, I don't know. I've got an ear infection so what I can hear at the moment is limited. I can try.?

Uh-Oh dear, you've missed the proverbial bus:
"Yesterday was Tuesday
Maybe Thursday you can sleep"
Maybe timing will be better next month?

That is probably fortunate, Daniel. I just got home and I can hardly hear anything again. Odd that today's is the only SWLUG posting that I recall receiving by email for quite a while.
At the moment I'm working on a puzzle. I bought this?https://www.sparkfun.com/products/17153 LCD unit for my Pi Pico. I'm trying to identify the connector since the connector is too small to unsolder to put a regular connector or pins in place. I don't want to buy the connector from SparkFun because they charge $10 postage which seems excessive and $1.50 for a connector that should be available somewhere like ebay for pennies. I missed when I bought it that it had a seemingly proprietary connector.
The nearest I can get since it's a connector for I2C is that it's some kind of JST connector. I did get a JST connector set but the wrong size.
Meanwhile I'm trying all sorts of ways of getting a Pi Pico W to display information on a webpage but am having difficulty getting the wifi set up the way I want it. What I'm trying to do there is to set the Pico W to broadcast an open access network - no password needed. I also just want to be able to see something akin to PicoNet on my phone and be able to connect to it and it open a browser on my phone and display a webpage generated by the Pico. I'm trying not to have to log into the Pico W then access a webpage by typing in an IP address. It *should* be possible. I see it done often enough with open access routers. I am a little hampered by not knowing all that much Python (give me a decent Python manual and I can program using that) and not knowing all that much about wireless network protocols.
