[Swlug] Non wake on suspend

I'm still using my old E203MA Asus laptop with Linux Mint. The letters are rubbing off the keys, the battery is down to 1/4 capacity and it keeps on going. Been using it for the past 6 years or so from new. Recently it has thrown a new problem at me. If the lid is closed and I open the lid, nothing happens. It does not awaken. If i press keys, it still won't wake. I have to do a long press on the power button to power it off and then turn it back on. If it sleeps when the lid is open, it does not do this. 

I know there have been updates and there's nothing clear in the Power Settings that could be a problem. It always used to work as I never ever turned the laptop off. I'd unplug it, close the lid and come back to it the next day. It would run for a month between updates that needed a restart.

So it could be the microswitch that shuts it off and wakes it from suspend that could be the problem though I doubt this. It is probably software related but I'm blessed if I can find the solution. It could even be that the laptop is getting toward retirement. Any suggestions?
