[Swlug] Non wake on suspend

You say it does work when it goes to standby with the lid open, but fails on lid close/open. Presumably most of the software is common to both so I question your assumption that it's a software issue.

I guess there is a line that's pulled high or low by the microswitch or by a transistor. The transistor system is clearly working.

Just guessing here, but maybe check:-

1) series resistor changed value.
2) electrolytic capacitor in circuit leaking.
3) switch high contact resistance.

Been using it for the past 6 years or so from new. Recently it has thrown a new problem at me. If the lid is closed and I open the lid, nothing happens. It does not awaken. If i press keys, it still won't wake. I have to do a long press on the power button to power it off and then turn it back on. If it sleeps when the lid is open, it does not do this.
