The bios has not been updated as far as I know. I know the system is up to date - I have a little alert on the toolbar that tells me when updates need to be applied. I'm wondering whether the entire laptop is hanging on by its fingertips. The battery is down to 25% capacity and has been on charge all day yesterday and all day today yet only reads 19% so more cells could have failed. It seems to have become a bit sluggish despite having several gigs out of its 64, free. That would make me suspect software which is why I suspect Chromium but something else happened today that made me wonder.
I had to nip out to West Columbia and was out for about 4 hours. When I got back, despite Chromium running, it woke from suspend. Then I watched a YouTube video on Firefox. I turned the laptop slightly to show the video to 'er indoors and the video blacked out and then it went into a suspend that it could not be woken from. It's looking like a power supply issue combined with other issues.
Given that the laptop was new on February 8, 2019, I'm wondering if it has come to the end of its reasonably expected life. It's near 6 years old and was a $250 laptop (Asus E203MA). While I could install a new battery, I already have two other Asus laptops, one of which I bought specifically to replace this one if it failed.
This one uses Linux Mint. The replacement uses Debian. That'll be an interesting challenge - I have yet to work out how to disable the login screen on that one. I had probably better start copying files onto memory stick.
